KALKIDAN GEBREYOHANNES-ROYSTER

Kalkidan "Kalu" Gebreyohannes–Royster is an Ethiopian-born, Canadian-raised entrepreneur and designer with a passion for creating inclusive spaces and empowering women. With over 15 years of experience in design, community building, and startups, she has established herself as a prominent figure in the industry. In August 2020, she opened Blk Girls Green House (BGGH), an indoor/ outdoor plant and specialty home goods shop in West Oakland, California. BGGH not only offers a diverse range of products but also serves as a community space and hosts community gatherings.

Kalkidan is also the co-founder of Alyce on Grand, a renowned women's clothing boutique in Oakland. She has used her platform and voice to champion important causes, including representation, equity, women's advocacy, and mental and emotional health. Her work has been featured in prestigious publications and media outlets such as Forbes, Essence, ABC News, and CBS News.

Beyond her entrepreneurial endeavors, Kalkidan is a mother of four children and holds a degree in Clinical Psychology. She launched her brand, KALU, in 2014, specializing in designing handbags for busy women who want to express themselves through fashion. Her vision is to create pieces that seamlessly integrate with women's existing wardrobes while allowing them to make a statement.
