THROughline is a multidisciplinary art show highlighting emerging black artist from various mediums. The central theme for the show is the honoring of female identifying change agents. The show culminates in an immersive experience displaying all five artists’ interpretation of these remarkable women, using photography, paintings, poetry, song, and culinary arts.
BLACK WOMEN HAVE PLAYED A SIGNIFICANT ROLE IN SHAPING OAKLAND’S UNIQUE CULTURE AS THE INSTIGATORS, LEADERS, ORGANIZING FORCES, AND NURTURERS OF OUR TOWN. THE WOMEN SELECTED FOR THIS SHOW ARE THOSE CULTURAL CREATORS AND PILLARS WHO ARE ACTIVELY MOLDING THE TOWN IN WHICH WE LIVE. THE INFRASTRUCTURE THESE WOMEN HAVE LAID IN THEIR RESPECTIVE FIELDS IS NOT ALWAYS NOTICED– HOWEVER THEIR WORK IS SUBCONSCIOUSLY FELT, AND WILL BE CELEBRATED IN THE THROUGHLINE PROJECT.
